For Everything Else...

Gas to drive Lucy to the Vet... $1.00
Vet office visit... $42.00
Antibiotic, pain reliever, and some other medicine that, um, does something...$85.00
Emergency surgery... $455.00
Watching Collin and me shove these pills:
into this dogs mouth:
and getting her to swallow them instead of hacking them up onto the kitchen floor...
Priceless.
(Scroll to the bottom of the post "What a Week" to see why we spent over $500 at the vet.)

What was the surgery for? Did she swallow something?

Shane is a pro at getting Lucky to swallow pills...he's had lots of practice :(

I don't spare ANY expense when it comes to my dog. Two years ago he got into the garbage, and ended up with a chicken bone lodged in his throat. He had laproscopic throat surgery and when all was said and done we were about $1100.00 poorer. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! (James realized that it was either this or grief counseling and anti-depressants for me so he somewhat reluctantly went along with it.)

For the pills, we hollow out a piece of hot dog, and stick the pill in there. The dog is so excited that he is getting hot dog that he practically swallows it whole.

Good Luck!

Lucy got wise to the "pill in a treat" trick. She actually takes the treat or peice of meat, chews it for a second, then spits out the pill. I don't know how she does it. We never had this problem with Marley or Oso. Whenever they need to take a pill they swallow whatever treat we stuck it in whole. Lucy must just have an amazing sense of smell. She is a bird dog...
